And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
MARK 14:36
Our opening Scripture captures the prayer of our Lord and Master, JESUS CHRIST, in the garden of Gethsemane. The foundation of JESUS’ prayer was His faith in God. JESUS was simply saying, “I know that all things are possible unto You. You can bail me out right now. You can change this situation, there is nothing You cannot do.” His prayer was an expression of His faith in God to bring Him out of the situation, even when it was most impossible; even when it was too late for an intervention. It was not an expression of fear or anxiety; it was an expression of faith, a knowing that all things are possible to God; a knowing that He was talking to the Only One that can handle it.
It is the faith in your heart that gives rise to your prayer. Prayer must be an expression of your faith for it to deliver. Some people pray, but the reason for their prayer is fear. Faith is what makes prayer work. When all hope is gone, our prayer must be borne out of faith, not of fear or anxiety, for it to produce. The mistake many of us make is that we often fail to pray at the last minute because our faith has failed and we can’t see how God can do anything anymore. I hear some people say, “Even God knows I have tried.”
We are instructed to pray always and not to faint – Luke 18:1. That means, when you are not seeing the results, pray. When the time has passed for the miracle to happen, pray. When you have done all you needed to do and you have not heard God, pray. When you have nowhere else to turn, pray. Why? Because prayer at any point, is an open invitation for God to do something. Remember, God will do nothing on the earth except someone ask Him to. You are holding on to Him because you know that there is nothing, absolutely nothing that is impossible with Him; there is no situation that is beyond remedy, under God.
This is the real test of your faith in God. Can you trust Him to intervene at the last minute? Do you believe in His miracle working power to perform wonders when it is most impossible? Can you stand on His Word and refuse to move an inch away from it, knowing that God can? Then pray. Prayer is faith in action. It takes believing to pray; I believed, therefore have I prayed. Faith without works is dead. If you believe God can still intervene at the last minute, then pray.
