Have You Heard God?

And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:

But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

Exodus 14:15-16

“There are many defeats we suffer not because we didn’t pray but because we didn’t hear God.”

Moses cried unto the Lord when he found himself and the children of Israel in a dilemma. Moses prayed to God, but he didn’t only pray; after he prayed something happened, he heard God. This is where some people miss it; they pray to God but their mode of communication is a monologue, a one-way traffic. They go to God and talk to Him, they tell Him all that they desire and conclude with ‘in JESUS’ Name, Amen’ and simply walk away, saying ‘I have prayed’. But the truth is, they won`t behave this way with a man they go to ask for help; not bothering about what he has to say, whether he has a response or not.

We miss the miracles and God-ordained seasons of visitations many times because we don’t hear Him. The God we serve is not dumb. Inasmuch as you believe that He hears you, also believe that He speaks and can respond to what you are saying. It is good to know that you prayed for 20hours, but please can you listen to what God has to say? Can you be quiet to hear Him speak to you? If you had a problem and your friend advised you to go and speak with your father because he has what it takes to handle it; on your return, one of the questions you will be asked is what your father said. So have you prayed? If the answer is yes, then what did God say? There are many defeats we suffer not because we didn’t pray but because we didn’t hear God. Praying is not enough; it is not meant to be a one-way communication. If you spoke with God, then He has something to say to you. Moses prayed, God spoke and instructed that he should lift up the rod in his hand and stretch it over the sea. Do you know that Moses could have still been going about with the rod and the children of Israel would have been destroyed not because Moses did not pray but because Moses did not hear God. Receive grace to hear Him from now on.

Just Do It

  • Fellowship more with the Word of God and with the Holy Spirit. The more you spend time with Him and His Word, the more your spiritual ears gets trained to hear Him. In the natural, you are likely to listen to the person you spend more time with. As you fellowship in His presence and with the Word, you will learn to yield to Him more and more.
  • Consciously cultivate the habit of listening for His Voice. You must position yourself to be sensitive to His voice. JESUS said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
  • It is not enough to hear Him, it is important to obey Him. Many people have missed God because they don’t understand God. God has no sense because He doesn’t need it. He is omniscient; He is all-knowing. It is obeying Him that makes the miracle happen. When hearing God, know that God never gives sensible instructions. It may not make sense or what He told you may not sound like the solution to your problem or may be too simplistic, but that is the way out.

Prayers

  1. Father, lead me daily by Your Word and keep me from falling into the trap of listening to any other voice that is not Yours, in the Name of JESUS.
  2. In the Name of JESUS, I block any access I have given to the enemy, knowingly or unknowingly, to speak to me.
  3. Help me Lord to walk in obedience to all You would have me do to settle my case, in the Name of JESUS.
