“Gratitude is a character of the heart.”

Unthankfulness has been the trend in our day and time. Genuine, heartfelt gratitude is missing in our generation, but I am not alarmed at this unbecoming trend because one of the marks of these last days is unthankfulness. Ingratitude is a spirit and so is gratitude. When you are possessed with the spirit of ingratitude, you are actually not able to appreciate what people do for you, you simply lose the capability to do so.

Gratitude comes with a sense of indebtedness and it flows from the heart. JESUS casted out seven devils from Mary Magdalene and for that she was eternally grateful. Later on in Scriptures, you find her pouring her Alabaster oil on JESUS’ feet and using her hair to wipe it; you find her following JESUS everywhere He went why? Because she had a sense of indebtedness towards JESUS for all that HE had done for her.

What is at the root of ingratitude?

• Callousness: This is taking the good deeds of God and all those He uses to be a blessing to you for granted.

• Wickedness of the Heart: A wicked heart cannot be grateful. It is seared with hot iron and so has lost the capacity to be prone to feelings.

• Pride: A proud man feels it is out of place to acknowledge the good deeds of others or that it is belittling​ to say thank you.

Just Do It

• Practice the Word of God that commands thanksgiving. 1Thessalonians 5:18
• Pray that you will be possessed by the Spirit of gratitude.
• Become deliberate in your acts of gratitude.

Prayers

• You spirit of the age that makes men unthankful in these last days, loose your grip over my life today in the Name of JESUS.
• Spirit of gratitude, come heavily upon me and find expression through my life, in the mighty Name of JESUS.
